The Department has experienced and enthusiastic teachers who are committed to preparing students for a competitive and globalized working environment. The Department combines teaching and research in the governance and public policy of Hong Kong and China, international politics, Asian international relations, and environmental studies. It contributes with the Department of Economics and the Department of Sociology and Social Policy to the integrated Social Sciences Programme in the University. The appointee should be able to teach courses in environmental politics as well as at least one other sub-field of political science. In particular, the ability to teach courses on global environmental politics and/or environmental issues in Hong Kong is strongly desirable. A willingness to contribute to the teaching of introductory courses in political science, international politics and/or research methods will be welcomed. Recent syllabuses of the existing environment-related and other political science courses can be viewed on the Departmental website.
General Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline with relevant teaching experience and a good research record. For appointment as an Associate Professor, applicants should have at least five years of relevant experience and a sound track record in research and scholarly activities.
Applicants are required to provide information on their research records and evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. Administrative experience will be a distinct advantage. The successful appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.
Conditions of Appointment:
The monthly salary ranges are as follows: Associate Professor around HK$58,300.- to HK$76,800.-; Assistant Professor - around HK$45,300.- to HK$67,600.- (approximate exchange rate: US$1.- = HK$7.8.-). The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund and gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for eligible appointees.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial fixed-term contract of three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement. After appointment, for those appointed at the rank of Associate Professor, accelerated substantiation may be exceptionally considered in the case of appointees with outstanding performance and ability.
