Positions for 2 Marie Curie PhD Fellowships (1.0 FTE) to undertake research on antimicrobials in the Host-Microbe Interactions Group in The Department of Animal Sciences, University of Wageningen
These 2 positions are available within the EU initial training project STARS which offers comprehensive research training in antimicrobial research (www.starts-itn.eu)
Projectdetails: Research on of antibacterial drug targets in S. pneumoniae and S. suis with a major focus on two-component regulatory systems that control aspects of cell division and virulence including biochemical characterisation and virulence studies with knock out mutant strains. The protein structures of candidate recombinant kinase and regulator proteins will be determined in collaboration with other partners in the project and used in drug discovery.
Requirements
Applicants must not have more than 5 years full time experience in research activities since completing their education. According to the European Rules concerning Marie Curie ITN projects applicants can be nationals of any country other than the host country (in this case The Netherlands) where this project is carried out. Additionally researchers must not have lived in the host country for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to appointment
We offer
Employment basis: temporary for specified period; duration of the contract: 1.5 + 2.5 years, maximum hours per week: 38. Additional conditions of employment: To begin with, a PhD appointment for a period of 18 months. Continuation of the appointment with another 30 months will be based on performance evaluation. Gross salary per month 2042 in the first year rising to 2612 per month in the fourth year, based on a full time appointment.
