Santander- Invited Chair in Nanotechnology

The University of Madeira/Santander-Totta Bank and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology are launching a public international call for an Invited Chair in the field of Nanotechnology/Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials. Applications are invited for the following position: Invited Chair in the field of Nanotechnology/Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials (4 years contract). Salary: up to 40.000 gross income plus fringe benefits, supported by University of Madeira/Santander-Totta Bank. The researcher must spend, at least, one semester in each year at University of Madeira/Centro de Quimica da Madeira. The deadline to submit applications is February 15th, 2010. Nonetheless, the call may remain open if no candidate is deemed suitable according to the criteria specified below. The Chair will be in effect in April 2010, or as soon as agreed with the selected candidate. Applications should be submitted by e-mail only to:nanochair uma.pt, with the following information: - Fellowship reference (UMa/Santander-NANO-09) and identification of the candidate; - Academic certificates in Portuguese or English; - A detailed CV; - A brief statement of the applicants research interests; - A four years working plan (maximum 3 pages); - Contacts for referral requests. The selection of the candidates will be carried out, using the following criteria, by an international panel of evaluators to be appointed by University of Madeira: -Scientific and technical track record and potential of the researcher. -Ability to integrate well in the main research areas at Centro de Quimica da Madeira and to take advantage of the Centers existing research infrastructure. -Record in the supervision of graduate students /post-doctoral fellows. -Record of funded research grants and national and international collaborations. -Capacity to mobilize international partnerships, as well as networks and other research initiatives and experience in organization/cooperation in masters/doctoral programs. -Quality of a proposal to stimulate ties between the University of Madeira/Centro de Quimica da Madeira and the international scientific community and promotion of activities within the framework of the Portuguese Nanotechnology Network (PortugalNano).
