Job description The Faculty of Law of the University of
Groningen is seeking applications and nominations for the Chair of
Criminology. The Faculty of Law belongs to the top three of the ten law
faculties in The Netherlands. In the most recent external assessment of
legal education (2004) the Faculty received the highest rating. The
Faculty gives high priority to the international dimension of education
and research. The Faculty offers five specialized LL.M. programmes in
English, amoung which a LL.M. in Criminal Law and Criminology, teaches
about 50 courses in English and receives yearly about 150 foreign
students.
The vacancy exists within the section Criminology. The department of
Criminal Law and Criminology consists of one full-time Full Professor
and two part-time Full Professors in Criminal Law, one Full Professor
of Criminology (the vacancy), and endowed Chairs in International
Criminal Law, Forensic Psychiatry, Penal Law and Organisation of Law.
The department has a scientific staff of 14 persons and 7 PhD students.
The position involves:
- teaching courses in Criminology
- conducting and supervising research and publishing in international reviews
- supervising PhD students
- participating in the management of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology and the Faculty of Law. Requirements- excellent knowledge of Criminology, with a PhD and a strong research and publication record
- be an enthusiastic teacher with excellent teaching skills and an inspiring vision on education
- have managerial and organizational qualities
- have mastery of English (excellent) and Dutch (sufficient). Non-Dutch
speaking candidates must be able to master the Dutch language within
two years after appointment. Conditions of employmentThe
University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and
experience with a minimum of 4904 and a maximum of 7142 gross per
month for a full-time position.
